Lorene Miller, 95, passed away October 9, 2017 in Flagstaff at home surrounded by her family.

Lorene was born in Mammoth Springs, Arkansas to Preston and Elizabeth Dillard and grew up on a farm.  She moved to Waterloo, Iowa to work for the Winterbottom’s family in their home.  She then worked for Edison Electric winding armatures during WWII and John Deere as a bookkeeper.  She met her husband on a blind date that neither of them wanted to go on and there were married 6 months and 18 days later in 1948.  In 1952, their son, Robert was born.  They managed rental properties in Phoenix and Lorene worked a short time at the Beatitudes Nursing home.  Lorene was active with the Salvation Army and 4H.  They retired to Payson in 1981, where they were active in their church and developed many friendships.  Thea Pickett became one of her closest friends.

After her husband passed away, Lorene moved to Flagstaff in 2007 to be near her daughter.  She was an excellent seamstress making clothes for her family and charity plus draperies for their rentals.  Getting a good bargain in her shopping was very important to her.  She enjoyed bowling, her bible study group, and volunteering at Sharon’s Attic.  The friendships she developed in those groups were priceless.  Lorene loved being around her family during the holidays and vacations.  She loved her independence and drove herself around town right up until her death.  Lorene will be missed by so many.

Lorene is survived by her daughter Donna (David) Brown and her son Robert (DonEtta) Miller; grandchildren Kimberly (Ben) de Putter, Gary (Vanessa) Miller, Doug Brown and Pam (Jeff) Leffel and 13 great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband Donald Miller, parents Preston and Elizabeth Dillard; her three brothers Roy, Ray and Junior Dillard; and four sisters Geneva Dillard, Lottie Geib, Lillie Flynn and Lucille Cherry.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, October 17th at 10:00 am at Lozano’s Flagstaff Mortuary.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Sharon’s Attic in Flagstaff, Vista Hospice in Flagstaff, Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Flagstaff, or Rainbow Acres in Camp Verde.
